Increased operating hours at the airport
In brief:
-Flightpath Watch Survey
(contact us if you didn't receive a copy)
-Letter or email of concern to Bromley council, from us all
-by key date: 9 September
In detail:
Many of you kindly filled in a "Flightpath Watch" questionnaire recently, and you will have seen a summary of the Downe responses on Downe Mailing. You will also know that the Downe Residents' Association has voted against the proposals (as has our councillor - Cllr Richard Scoates).
For interest to those of you who are against the airport's plans for extended hours, the campaign (run by Flightpath Watch) are moving to the next stage. This is for as many residents as possible to write an e-mail (or letter) to Bromley Council outlining your feelings on the subject and asking the Council to re-consider/reverse it's current position (agreement in principle to extend the hours). This e-mail can be copied to MP Jo Johnson also.
It is important to use your own words, but some of the aspects of what is proposed at Biggin Hill that may cause you concern might be:
A 27% increase in hours - at the beginning and end of the day - when people need sleep (most people are happy with current hours)
A concern at increase in noise and pollution
A concern at larger aircraft being used
A concern over the future of greenbelt land (eg Milking Lane Farm - which has been bought by the owners of the airport)
A concern that the Council will be spending more Council taxpayers money than it will recoup from any extra hours or expansion of facilities
A concern that this may be the "thin end of the wedge" in terms of Biggin Hill development (threats to green belt/World Heritage bid)
A concern that potential flightpath changes could lead to many more aircraft directly over Downe
A concern about aircraft flying over the PRU hospital
Your e-mails can be sent to the following:
Doug Patterson (CEO)
.....and copied to:
Jo Johnson MP
Reminder:
If you are going to send emails to Bromley Chief Executive Doug Patterson & Orpington MP Jo Johnson …. don’t forget to include your home address in the body of your email.

The next key date in the campaign is 9 September (the next Council "Exec" meeting), so if you intend to send in an letter/e-mail of concern to the council, please do so before then.
