Read on for a feedback summary from Gary Stewart, a Downe resident, who attended last night's Gigaclear meeting in Downe:

"I attended the village meeting last night hosted by Gigaclear who are a fibre broadband company. Gigaclear are at early stages of establishing interest on the potential take-up of their service in the villages of Downe and Cudham.

They appear to have a very compelling proposition by delivering a pure fibre service direct to most homes within each of the villages. They have a residential service that will deliver speeds up to 1Gbps (1,000 times faster than most of us currently achieve).

Their business case requires that about 40% of all households in Downe and Cudham sign a contract for service for 12 months and the monthly charge starts at £38.80 (for 50Mbps) up to £72.00 (for 1Gbps or 1,000Mbps) with a one-off installation cost of £100.

If we can achieve 40% take-up, they will then install the network (estimated cost to Gigaclear is approximately £1.5M) and they expect they could achieve the network installation within 6 months.

I am not sure if you have already registered your interest (no commitment at this stage) but I would urge you to do so at the link below.

Steve Barnes (Downe Residents' Association) will be posting more information on the association website in due course:

Please pass on the message to as many people as you can think of.
